What we do
Our work in this practice group is structured around the records, deadlines, and decisions involved:
- Statutory enablement for direct electronic upload of quarterly TDS and TCS return files (.fvu).
- Formal appointment and authentication of the Principal Officer / Authorized Signatory.
- Registration and token integration of Class 3 Digital Signature Certificate (DSC) for TDS.
- Direct access to view and download departmental TDS notices, intimations under Section 200A, and compliance reports.
- Verification of challan consumption status and BSR codes prior to return submission.
- Seamless synchronization between the e-Filing portal and the TRACES TDS processing system.
- Prevention of penalties under Section 272A for non-compliance with TDS reporting regulations.
How the engagement works
Section 200(3) of the Income-tax Act, read with Rule 31A of the Income-tax Rules, statutorily obligates every person responsible for deducting tax to prepare and deliver quarterly statements of tax deduction. Electronic filing of TDS statements is mandatory for all corporate deductors, government entities, and deductors with 20 or more deductee records. Operating an active, verified Deductor profile on the official e-filing portal is essential for fulfilling these quarterly obligations within statutory deadlines (31st July, 31st October, 31st January, and 31st May).
Scenario 1: A newly incorporated company or partnership firm that just obtained its TAN needing deductor portal registration to upload its first Form 24Q/26Q TDS return.
Scenario 2: An organization changing its Managing Director, CEO, or Chief Financial Officer requiring update of the Principal Officer details and re-registration of the authorized signatory DSC.
Scenario 3: A proprietary employer whose business has grown to hire salaried staff subject to TDS under Section 192 setting up their deductor compliance portal.
Scenario 4: A firm receiving an intimation under Section 200A regarding a processing error needing access to the e-Proceedings portal tab for e-response submission.
Scenario 5: An educational trust or hospital deducting tax under Section 194J on professional fees establishing authorized deductor accounts.

Key deliverables & outputs
General questions
01Is TAN registration on the e-Filing portal different from PAN registration?
Yes. PAN registration is for taxpayer compliance (income tax returns, tax refunds, AIS/TIS), whereas TAN registration is specifically for tax deductors to upload quarterly TDS/TCS statements (Form 24Q, 26Q, 27Q) and manage tax deducted from others.
02Can an entity have both a PAN login and a TAN login on incometax.gov.in?
Yes. Every entity deducting tax operates two distinct profiles: one using its PAN as the User ID (for its own ITR and corporate tax) and another using its TAN as the User ID (for its TDS deductor activities).
03Who can be appointed as the Principal Officer for a deductor profile?
For a company, a Director or Managing Director; for an LLP, a Designated Partner; for a partnership, a Partner; and for a trust or institution, the Managing Trustee or Secretary can be appointed as the Principal Officer.
04Is a Digital Signature Certificate mandatory for deductor e-filing?
Corporate deductors and entities subject to statutory tax audit under Section 44AB must upload and authenticate their TDS returns using a registered Digital Signature Certificate.
